Begins the week of June 13 and runs through the week of August15. Sign up now for summertime music fun - a time to hone your skills on your individual instrument in private lessons or concentrate on brushing up one or a couple of skills in our topics classes! Private Instruction —
Summer Session starts the week of June 13 and consists of 8 moveable lessons at a mutually convenient time for the student and the instructor. 45 minute sessions only.
How can I help my child practice when I don’t know anything about music?!—
For parents/guardians. This can also be used as a “quick tip” class for adult learners.
Guitar Ensemble—
Learn how to play guitar in a group setting. Audition for placement.
Academy Choir—
Hone your skills of blend and tone quality while exploring special literature geared for choral ensemble.
Voice Class—
A group voice class that focuses on creating clear tone and consistency through the use of folk song singing and basic solfege usage.
Basic Theory Skills—
Use this class to prepare for entrance to a college program, pass the state exam, to brush up your own skills or to know more about what your child is studying.
Rhythm Skills—
Immerse yourself in the fun of feeling the beat and the challenges of rhythm without the pitches getting in the way. Polish this necessary and fundamental skill. When you go back to the melodies, it’ll be a snap!
Ear Training—
Developing listening skills is important for singing and playing by ear but also for daily practicing. Improvement in every skill is more accessible when the student is listening as they practice. Come open your ears!
Composition & Improvisation—
Explore the basics of writing music. The class provides a few ideas, which also apply to improvisation, to get started on your own.
Piano Proficiency Skills—
Geared for the high school student who plans to study music in college. Start early and in a relaxed and focused setting in preparation for college proficiency exams.
How to Read & Use Chord Charts—
This course is for the advanced, classically trained or those who have some experience but are looking for a stronger ability to read fake books or play in a rock band or contemporary worship service.
Piano Ensemble/Collaboration—
Practice honing the skills of playing with a partner of piano or another instrument. This class is easily transformed into a course on accompanying for those interested in that avenue. Geared for the early intermediate to advanced player. Audition for placement and piece selection.
Music History—
Get a sampling of some of the top composers of eras gone by, their music, and general observations about the style of their time. Class format is largely listening.
Phrasing—
Music communicates ideas to us through its phrasing, but what exactly are phrases? How do they work? Learn the answer to these and other questions, as well as clarifying your ability to hear and communicate them to others.
Improvement & Ease in Music Reading—
Sight reading, finding patterns and the skill of mapping are the focus of this course. Ideas for short-cuts and tricks for quicker recognition will be provided to allow the student to improve this necessary skill. Geared for the beginning and early intermediate player.
