Men's Ministries
The Mantastic Potluck
Last fall a few men from Grace met on a Saturday morning to talk about men’s ministry. Those who came were from different backgrounds with different experiences and different outlooks on life. The most important thing was what they had in common, and that’s a heart for Jesus and a desire to share that with other men.
From the initial meetings, Saturday mornings have grown into a time for men to get together without a lot of expectations. It’s a place where guys can come and be accepted as they are without worrying about getting recruited to paint the church or give a dissertation of their stand on predestination. There is some planning, but it’s not over structured. Some conversations are thought provoking and meaningful, and others are light, like our favorite sports heroes: Jackie Robinson, John Elway, and The Crusher.
Maybe you’re asking why a men’s ministry at Grace is so important and what is it about? Pastor Chris stated, “Men’s ministry at Grace is about connecting men to men and men to God.” Men’s ministry is similar to what goes on during our Saturday morning gatherings.
Nobody sings kum-by-ya or does group hugs, but there sure are a lot of laughs, and a group of guys that have gotten to know one another. Saturday mornings have been a time when guys get together over coffee and a bagel or a donut and talk about life and faith, work, families, hobbies, sports, and even the humorous things that happened over the week.
So what does this have to do with “The Mantastic Potluck” that was held in March? The Saturday morning guys came up with the idea. The goal was to offer men of all ages a taste of what happens on Saturday mornings.
Mission accomplished! This was not your run-of-the-mill three-bean-casserole potluck. It was a mantastic time with foosball, darts, Wii boxing and golf, and hearty food like pheasant and dumplings, chicken wings, chili, and Kevin Klair’s famous wild rice hot dish, followed by a lively game of dodge ball in fellowship hall.
We couldn’t help ending the evening with talk about when we would plan the next Mantastic event.
