Ready...Set...Change
A Season of Cross-training
It’s time for some spiritual fitness cross-training as we step into our Lenten Journey. Ash Wednesday, February 8 begins with a day of repentance, reflection and evaluation. Ashes are marked on our foreheads and these words spoken: “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.”
The heart of Lent is all about change and refocus. On our 40-day Lenten Journey to spiritual change and fitness, we will set aside time for deeper moments of prayer, worship, fasting, acts of charity, scriptural meditation and Bible reading. All this is meant to help us step toward things that encourage spiritual growth and prepare us for the celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection on Easter.
In order to enter this season of cross-training and grow our spiritual fitness, our weekend worship will focus upon some of the early incidents of Jesus’ ministry: his temptation in the wilderness; his encounters with various types of people—a religious leader as well as a notorious Samaritan woman; and some of his miracles. All of these stories are meant for us to look inward, refocus and change to deepen the ways we follow Jesus.
In addition to weekend worship, Wednesday worship will be offered at 7pm using the Holden Village Vespers and powerful Nooma video series that will challenge us to change. These videos include: Dust, Breathe, Noise, Sunday, and Rich.
I invite everyone to consider:
-
Making weekend worship and Wednesday Vesper services
a high priority
Worship times
-
Enjoying fellowship and community around Lenten Suppers starting Wednesday evenings, February 13-March 19. A simple meal will be prepared and served by various Grace ministries and staff at 5:30pm
.
-
Making use of our Prayer Labyrinth on Saturdays, 4-7pm and Sundays, noon-2pm through Lent
-
.
So get “Ready...Set...CHANGE” and step into this season of cross-training with Lenten preparation for Holy Week and Easter when we: Get Up and Live!
May each of us prepare our hearts and pray for the impact and change this journey may have in our lives and ministries beyond this place of Grace.
In Him,
Pastor Mark
