Membership and Discipleship
We welcome all the new comers to Grace Lutheran Church! We are thrilled that you are interested in exploring membership (discipleship) and partnering with our congregation as you continue your faith journey. Grace extends an open invitation to all to join us in worship, learning, praying and growing in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We give thanks that the Holy Spirit has brought you to this place.
We know that individuals come to our church at a variety of points spiritually - some ready to engage congregational life immediately, some needing to learn more about the congregation, some simply wanting to listen and have their spirit fed. Grace respects where you are in your spiritual journey. At the same time, we want to invite and encourage you to join the life and ministry of this congregation. Making a commitment to your faith and the church of Jesus Christ brings great spiritual reward.
Grace Lutheran Church is a congregation committed to welcome people into a relationship with Jesus Christ, encourage them to grow in their discipleship, and finally, equip them to share this ministry of grace and love through serving others. Because of this commitment those who desire to join the congregation will be asked to prayerfully reflect on this statement:
Membership = Commitment to Grow Spiritually
The outgrowth of this Commitment to Grow Spiritually is a
Call to Discipleship
When you decide to join the congregation, to become a member (disciple), you will be making a commitment to grow spiritually. New members will be asked to make a covenant to grow in their faith towards the Seven Habits of Effective Discipleship.
Seven Habits of Effective Discipleship
Following Jesus inspires us to develop practices that encourage us to put our faith into practice and live it out.
Worship Weekly:
"I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together" (Psalm 34:1-3).
Pray and Read Scripture Daily:
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you"
(I Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Study God's Word:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path"
(Psalm 119:105).
Grow Vital Relationships with other Christians:
"Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action" (I John 3:18).
Give/tithe 10% of my Financial Resources:
“...give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back” (Luke 6: 38).
Share my Faith with Others:
"But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
(Romans 10:14-15).
Serve in a Ministry:
"For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45).
We understand the demands of life and human fallibility and don't expect perfection in keeping this covenant. Rather, our hope is for progress and growth, and we believe that faith development will bring great spiritual reward.
